Colorado Medical Waste has focused not only on meeting client needs but also becoming a strong community steward. That’s why owner Beverly Hanstrom pounced on an opportunity to incorporate a brand new and environmentally efficient medical waste processing technology, known as “ozone medical waste processing.” Under Beverly’s leadership, Colorado became the third state in the country to use this method.

Ozone medical waste processing uses ozone, electricity and an industrial shredder to transform medical waste into a sterile confetti residual with zero emissions. Compared to previous processing methods, ozone technology reduces waste volume by 90 percent. In addition to diverting tons of medical waste from landfills, incinerators and waste facilities annually, the process also eliminates bacteria, pathogens and viruses 100 times more effectively than steam.

In recognition of this technology’s game-changing impact, the City of Aurora granted Hanstrom the Environmental Sustainability award in December, 2014. For her efforts in bringing this environmentally friendly technology to Colorado, Small Business Majority is honored to name her the recipient of the 2015 Small Business Leadership Sustainability Award.
